- What is journaling? - Why you should start - Grocery List of Recommendations

When I hear the word journaling I think of some sad dude writing down his feeling because a shrink told him to. However, its a lot more than just that. The possibilities of a gridded notebook dont require you to write your feelings down at all. So through the utilization of the Life Tracker System by Reysu we can make a stupid simple layout that allows us to not only track habits, but set monthly goals, reflect on our success, and generally keep metrics on our productivity.

Recommendations:

  • Journal thats preferably Dotted/Grid (I prefer Grid) - Leuchtturm1917 a5 Grid
  • Pen - Sakura Pigma Micron Pens
  • Pencil - Zebra Pen M-301

Life Tracker System - by the YouTuber “Reysu”

  • TRAC - Track * Reflect * Apply Changes * Capture
  • History: This dude basically saw the currently very popular journaling system called “Bullet Journaling” in which its focus is daily planning, and tweaked it to focus on habit forming, tracking, and reflecting.
    • Monthly Section (Right Page)
      • Habit Tracker Grids
      • Monthly Dates + Days
      • Written Section for Best Part of the day
    • Monthly Section (Left Page)
      • Goals / Reminders for that Month
      • Reflect (Reflection on the progression of habits)
    • Pages After That - Daily Reflections
      • Day/Date + Time + (I like to add what kind of pen/pencil I was using)
      • Just reflect on the day, I like to reflect on my productivity and if something got me off track or what worked well or something I learned that was super rad. You can write anything. This part is a skill and it does get easier over time.

Instructions:

Every month you do the monthly page, and inbetween you do one Daily Reflections a day. Super simple setup, nothing super fancy going on, its great. As a beginner I would say the Daily Reflections is the hard part due to the fact that you can do anything so heres a list of things you could write about: (You can mix and match)

  • The Blake Method - Just write down all your ideas randomly
  • Draw something around you
  • Talk about what made your day so amazing / abject
  • Something you learned
  • A new song you found
  • Daily Goals / Weekly Goals / Monthly Goals / Yearly Goals
  • How your gym was / what machine gave you the best stretch / how dieting is going
  • Ideas for a book / machine / invention
  • Quotes - just some of your favorite quotes or something cool someone said

The image at the top is my monthly setup and so far I only have 3 habits, and then 1 habit list which is numerical vs a shading in box. As you can I have 1 for utilizing my weekly planner, and then the other two are part of the 1:1:30 plan (Check out my productivity section to learn about that!). As for the numerical values I didnt know what to do so I just have my weight since im trying to bulk back up to 165. When I first got into journaling it was with the Bullet Journaling system but I didnt like how long it took to setup and quiet frankly as a 20 year old in college in Business I surley didnt need a planner so I kind of stopped and eventually got back into it as a idea book. Basically, it was just the daily reflections but for my crazy ideas. A core concept that Ive kept through all my journaling is writing what pen and ink combination im using for that day / formatting page.
